Hello from Singapore! - Our first adventure begins

After months of planning, packing, and countless goodbyes, we are finally here: Singapore! Our first destination for this exciting year full of new experiences, cultures, and adventures.

Right upon arrival, you can feel that this city is different – a fascinating blend of modernity and tradition, skyscrapers and green oases, hustle and absolute order. The air is warm and humid, but the sight of the spectacular skyline makes up for it instantly.

First impressions

We are staying in a small apartment right next to Little India – perfect for diving straight into the action. For us, coming from a quieter part of Switzerland, it’s quite an intense start. The apartment is compact at 38 m², but it has everything we need and serves as our little retreat.

On our first day, we just started walking – no plan, just curiosity. And wow, Singapore surprises you at every corner! Food here is a world of its own – we immediately tried the first hawker center: chicken soup, Hainanese chicken rice, chicken curry, and, of course, a fresh coconut to drink.

Travelling with a baby

Traveling with a toddler is a whole new challenge, but Singapore is surprisingly family-friendly. The MRT (subway) is super clean, there are changing rooms everywhere, and the locals are incredibly helpful and child-friendly. At one point, we even had to make sure our little one didn’t get “eaten up” out of sheer excitement. :-) He was especially fascinated by the colorful lights at Marina Bay Sands – and honestly, so were we!

What’s Next

For now, we’re taking it slow, settling in, and getting a feel for the city’s rhythm. Our list includes the Botanical Gardens, Sentosa Island, and, of course, a few hidden cafés I can’t wait to try.

We also have to start looking for a more permanent home – right now, we’re in a temporary apartment, but we need a place that truly fits us in the long run. Singapore is known for its high rental prices, so that will definitely be a challenge. The first viewings are already scheduled, and I’m curious to see what the housing market here is really like. A good location, some greenery nearby, and a space where our little one feels at home are our top priorities.

I’ll be taking you along on our adventures, challenges, and all the little special moments. Singapore is just the beginning, and I can’t wait to discover more!

Hallo aus Singapur! – Unser erstes Abenteuer beginnt

Nach Monaten der Planung, des Packens und unzähliger Abschiede sind wir endlich hier: Singapur! Unser erstes Ziel für dieses aufregende Jahr voller neuer Eindrücke, Kulturen und Erlebnisse.

Schon bei der Ankunft spürt man, dass diese Stadt anders ist – eine faszinierende Mischung aus Moderne und Tradition, Wolkenkratzern und grünen Oasen, Hektik und absoluter Ordnung. Die Luft ist warm und feucht, aber der Anblick der spektakulären Skyline entschädigt sofort.

Erste Eindrücke

Wir wohnen in einem kleinen Apartment direkt neben Little India – perfekt, um sofort ins Geschehen einzutauchen. Für uns, die aus einer eher ruhigeren Ecke der Schweiz kommen, ist das ein ziemlich intensiver Start. Das Apartment ist mit seinen 38 m² zwar kompakt, bietet aber alles, was wir brauchen, und ist unsere kleine Rückzugsoase.

Am ersten Tag sind wir einfach losgelaufen – ohne Plan, nur mit Neugier. Und wow, Singapur überrascht an jeder Ecke! Essen ist hier eine eigene Welt – wir haben uns gleich durch die ersten Hawker-Stände probiert: Hühnersuppe, Hainanese Chicken Rice, Chicken Curry und natürlich eine frische Kokosnuss zum Trinken.

Mit Baby unterwegs

Reisen mit einem Kleinkind ist eine ganz neue Herausforderung, aber Singapur ist erstaunlich familienfreundlich. Die MRT (U-Bahn) ist super sauber, überall gibt es Wickelräume, und die Einheimischen sind unglaublich hilfsbereit und kinderfreundlich. Einmal mussten wir sogar aufpassen, dass unser Kleiner nicht vor lauter Begeisterung „aufgefressen“ wurde. :-) Besonders fasziniert war er von den bunten Lichtern am Marina Bay Sands – und ehrlich gesagt, wir auch!

Was als Nächstes kommt

Wir lassen es erst einmal ruhig angehen, wollen ankommen und den Rhythmus der Stadt spüren. Auf unserer Liste stehen der Botanische Garten, Sentosa Island und natürlich ein paar versteckte Cafés, die ich unbedingt testen möchte.

Ausserdem steht die Wohnungssuche an – aktuell wohnen wir in einem temporären Apartment, aber langfristig brauchen wir ein Zuhause, das zu uns passt. Singapur ist bekannt für seine hohen Mietpreise, also wird das sicher eine Herausforderung. Die ersten Besichtigungen sind bereits geplant, und ich bin gespannt, wie der Wohnungsmarkt hier wirklich ist. Besonders wichtig sind uns eine gute Anbindung, etwas Grün in der Nähe und natürlich ein Ort, an dem sich unser Kleiner wohlfühlt.

Ich werde euch hier regelmässig mitnehmen – auf unsere Abenteuer, Herausforderungen und all die kleinen, besonderen Momente. Singapur ist erst der Anfang, und ich kann es kaum erwarten, mehr zu entdecken!
